Langtang Trek and Chitwan Safari

We welcome you to the land of the Himalayas and cultural assortments. As you land at the international airport, the representative of the Himalayan Advisor will be waiting for you at the terminal. They will pick you up from the airport and then drop you at the hotel. Freshen up and rest at the hotel before visiting us at our office. We will discuss your trip in the days to come. Today, we will take you on a city tour of Kathmandu. Visit four of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Valley: Pashupatinath Temple, Changunarayan Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. As we will be preparing for the trek tomorrow, one of our professional tour guides will take you on an amazing sightseeing and religious and cultural tour in Kathmandu.

The temple of Pashupatinath is a holy abode for Hindus. The temple has Lord Shiva (the destroyer) as the main deity. Many Hindus across the border are flooding every year to visit the temple. There are many small temples of various deities surrounding the main temple. The main temple has a large bronze statue of a bull at the entrance. The temple is pagoda style with two layers of roof. There is a Shiva lingam at the center of the temple. The temple is bordered by the Holy River Bagmati so many poojas and rituals of cremation are performed at the river bed. Next is the holy grail of the Buddhist religion, Bouddhanath Stupa.

The stupa is a large dome 36 meters tall surrounded by many prayer flags. It is a typical stupa with big eyes at the top of the stupa on the four sides with images of Buddha surrounding the stupa. Many eateries and souvenir shops are surrounding the stupa. After that, we will visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The Durbar Square is one of the three royal courtyards of Kathmandu Valley. There are many architectural, cultural, and religious heritages in the areas. Some of the popular structures are 55 Windows Palace, Nyatapola Temple, Golden Gate, and Siddha Pokhari. Then we will drive to the Changunarayan Temple, the oldest temple in Nepal of the god Vishnu. The temple is on a hilltop with Champak trees surrounding the hill. The temple is built in the traditional Nepali style with beautiful carvings and many other deities surrounding it. After enjoying ourselves, we will return to the hotel for the overnight.

We will leave for Syabrubesi early morning after breakfast. It will take about 7 to 9 hours to reach our destination. As we travel on graveled roads on the ridges of Kathmandu valley, we can observe Annapurna Himalayas in the west along with Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang peaks. As we reach Langtang National Park, we will be surrounded by beautiful forests. On reaching Betrawati and Dunche we will soon reach Syabrubesi. Syabrubesi is a beautiful village in the Langtang National Park with scenic greenery and local village life.

Syabrubesi is the starting point of the trek to the Langtang region. Today we will head to Lama Hotel. We will cross the Bhote Koshi River that flows from Tibet. There will be oak and rhododendron forests with monkeys swinging on the trees as we reach the subtropical forest region. The region has animals like langur, red panda, wild boars, and deer. You will climb the steep path and finally after 4-6 hours reach the Lama Hotel overnight.

Today you will pass through the location of the old Langtang village. Now a rock field, the village reminds the devastating earthquake of 2015. We will climb through the forest and can see Langtang Lirung along the way. The forest of hemlock, oaks, maples, and rhododendron covers the region with many pasture lands and yaks grazing in the field. We will reach Ghora Tabela (3,000 m. / 9,842 ft) for lunch and ascend the path through Buddhist monasteries reaching the sprouting Langtang village. After a few hours' walk, we will reach the Mandu, our destination for today.

Our destination for today is Kyanjin Gumba. Walking through yak pastures, local woods, and stones, we will see the valley opening further with great views. We will cross streams, moraines, and monasteries with Buddha images and idols finally reaching Kyanjin. You can see the cheese factory, water mills, prayer wheels, Chorten, and scripted rocks in the region along with peaks like Langtang Lining, Kyajin Ri, and Yala.

Today, we will take a trip to Cherko Ri or Langshisha Kharka according to your preference and feasibility. Waking up early morning will be pleasant as the sunrise can be a new spectacle for us. It will be an adventurous journey and helps us to acclimatize to our surrounding. If we are lucky, we can see snow leopards and musk deer. We will return to Kyanjin for the overnight stay.

Our stay at the Kyanjin will end today as we will head back to Lama Hotel. The descent is easy and beautiful along the same path. We will retrace our way through the Langtang Khola, Mandu, and Ghora Tabela. The trail might be steep but will be easy as we self-pace ourselves. We will stay at Lama Hotel for the night.

We will finally trace our way back to Syabrubesi village. It will take us 4-6 hours to reach the village but we can also take a different route from Rimche via Sherpa Gaun to Syabrubesi. It will take more time but the detour is stunning.

Today we will take a long drive to Chitwan. It will take about 12 hours to reach our destination. So we will leave early in the morning. Chitwan is famous for the Chitwan National Park, a natural world heritage site with many flora and fauna. Activities like jungle safari, bird watching, and sightseeing are famous. As we arrive in Chitwan, we will first check in the rooms. Let’s brief about the resort and the facilities with refreshments.

Today we will explore Chitwan National Park. After breakfast, we will head for a canoe ride in the Rapti River of Chitwan and a nature walk in the forest. We will have our lunch after visiting Elephant Breeding Center. Then let’s go on a Jeep Safari. Many species of flora and fauna are found in the national park along with endangered species like the One-horned Rhinoceros and Bengal Tiger. There are 68 species of mammals, 544 species of birds, 56 species of herpetofauna, and 126 species of fish found in the national park. We can see many of those species like Gharials, Rock Pythons, Black Stork, White Stork, and Bengal Florican. Finally, a Tharu cultural program show awaits us.

This is the final full day in Chitwan. After breakfast, we will hop on our ride and go for a bird-watching event. As there are 544 species of birds found in the national park, it is a calm and peaceful adventure that we can attain. After bird watching, we will grab our lunch and then go for Elephant Back Safari. We will explore many regions where elephants are essential as many wild animals dare not to approach elephants. After our safari ends we will go back to our hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Today we fly to Kathmandu. It will be a few hours of the ride back to the city. After we arrive in Kathmandu, let's rest for the day as you have traveled a lot in the past few days. Prepare for the final tour of Kathmandu valley tomorrow. You are free to do any activities for the rest of the evening. We recommend you explore local markets and local restaurants for authentic Newari and Nepali cuisines.

Today we will visit the remaining UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Valley. We will visit the remaining two durbar squares and Swayambhunath Stupa. The stupa is on a hilltop with a large dome in the center surrounded by many trees and monkeys roaming around. There are many temples of Hindu deities at the top of the hill which shows the harmony of between the Hindu and Buddhist religions. After exploring the stupa, let's step down the hill to visit the Amideva Buddha Park at the foot of the hill. There are three big statues of Shakyamuni Buddha in different mudras in the park.

After that, we will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square which is also called Basantapur Durbar Square. There are many temples like Ashok Vinayak Mandir, Taleju Temple, Vishnu Temple, Indrapur Temple, and Kotilingeshwara Mahadev Temple along with statues of gods such as Hanuman, Kal Bhairav, and Sweta Bhairav. Living goddess, Kumari resides in Durbar square. Then let's move toward the final destination of our trip, Patan Durbar Square. There are three distinct chowks in Patan Durbar Square: Sundari Chowk, Mul Chowk, and Keshav Narayan Chowk. The Keshav Narayan Chowk is a museum with Tantric, Buddhist, and Hindu artifacts, and other chowks have temples like Krishna, Bhimsen, Taleju Bhawani, and so on. Another beautiful attraction is the Hiranya Varna Mahavihar Temple (golden temple), a 12^th-century pagoda-style temple with Lord Buddha as the main deity.

After exploring all the regions, let's meet up for a warm farewell dinner with traditional dances and talk about the overall trip and your experiences.
