Introduction - Hindu Pilgrimage Tour in Kathmandu

We welcome all the devotees in Nepal. Nepal is not only famous for its rich natural and cultural heritage but also for religious pilgrimage tours. There are many ancient temples and holy stupas that are extremely important for the Hindu and Buddhist religious communities. Kathmandu valley itself is a pilgrimage destination as there are many temples and stupas such as Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, and Swayambhunath that are in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. But that is not all of the religious places and temples in and near Kathmandu Valley. You can find many other pilgrimage abodes in Kathmandu valley that can be dedicated to different Hindu gods. On this trip to godly places, we will be visiting two of the famous pilgrimage site of Lord Shiva.

The first site is the Kailashnath Mahadev statue. The statue is located between Kavrepalanchowk and Bhaktapur districts. The statue is 143 ft high overlooking Kathmandu valley. It can be regarded as one of the tallest Shiva statues in Nepal. Many people visit the statues and the numbers doubles on weekends. The statue is located at the hilltop, so the foundation was built 100 ft deep to prevent damage due to landslides. The construction of the statue was completed about a decade ago in 2011. Since then many local and foreign visitors can be seen visiting the Shiva statue. You cannot smoke, drink, or kill in the region. The place is beautiful with a staircase leading to the main statue. There are Shiva lingams and statues of Nandi bull, his wife Parbati, and his sons Ganesh and Kumar in the vicinity.

The next site to visit is the Doleshwor Mahadev Temple. The temple is located south of the Bhaktapur district. The temple is located in Suryabinayak. It is believed that the temple is the fore portion of a bull (disguised as Lord Shiva) related to the Kedarnath temple of India. The temple is small with the statue of Nandi Bull at the front gate. It is a beautiful white top domed temple with other structures around it.

So, if you are a believer of Lord Shiva, a Shaivism, or a history enthusiast be sure to join us in this pilgrimage tour of Lord Shiva. You can also add this trip to other day trips in Kathmandu valley or add a visit to Pashupatinath Temple which extra charge.
