    Introduction - Cooking Experience in Kathmandu

    Food is one of the best ways to get to know the place you are visiting. The food reflects the culture, tradition, and religion, and expresses the friendliness of a group of people. Nepal is bordered by two behemoths; India and China, the food also reflects the combination of both cultures with its twist. The use of spices come from India and the techniques and food type comes from China. We have borrowed the traditions of both countries and molded them according to our taste to show ourselves internationally. Along with the borrowed traditions, there are also local food items of denizens in Kathmandu, the Newar community. The food reflects the culture, traditions, and celebrations/events of the Newar community, as specific foods are eaten on specific occasions.

    In this Cooking Experience and Tour in Kathmandu, you can choose between meal time (lunch/dinner) with vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and vegan options. You will be cooking 4 to 5 dishes in the cooking class of your choice. The local Nepali chef will teach you;

    • What is the list of ingredients for a specific dish?
    • How to procure the ingredients?
    • How to use the ingredients for a given dish?
    • And how do garnish and present the dish?

    So, the start of the Cooking Tour in Kathmandu begins with a trip to the market. You will get fresh ingredients and spices from the local store. Many of the stores are basically on the road with a tin roofs and some of the stores are in cemented houses. You can barter with the price of the ingredients and spices. After getting all the needed ingredients, return to the kitchen. The chef will teach you about the ingredients, spices, and their uses in the dish. After the cooking ends let the chef judge your food and enjoy a succulent and spice-filled feast of your labor. Later, we will drop you at your hotel ending the Cooking Tour in Kathmandu.
