Island Peak Climbing in Nepal

Welcome to the land of Himalayas; Nepal. While you are landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, the Himalayan Advisor's agent will greet you with your name and help you transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. After getting refreshed, we bring you to our office and brief you about the program and overnight rest at the hotel.

Firstly, you will visit UNESCO World Heritage Sights of Kathmandu valley namely Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. After returning we will brief you about the trip and group discussion at the office and go back to the hotel for the overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Early morning dawn you will be taken to a domestic airport to fly Lukla (2,860m/9,383ft). It takes 35 minutes scenic flight to Lukla airport, and you will have a tea break, while the Guide will sort out and distillate the loaded luggage to be carried out by the Sherpa. The guide will be responsible for your lunch depending upon the time of arrival at Lukla. The trek resumes with a splendid view of Number Himal and Phari. We march further and to Phakding passing some Sherpa from Hamlet. We follow the lag to Dudhkoshi River with slow-ups from Thado Koshi, where you can have lunch with the splendid view of Kusum-Kangaru (6,367m/20,889ft). Crossing a short suspension bridge and from here a short climb brings us to the Ghat village another 1 and a half hours of slow walk brings you to Phakding village for the overnight stay Phakding after 3-4 hrs walk and around the village for local erudition.

(Note: During trekking season, you must fly from Ramechhap airport instead of Kathmandu airport. So, you will drive to Ramechhap (4-5 hours drive) then fly to Lukla)

The trek begins in the morning as we cross the suspension bridge and the Dudh Koshi. The walk is pleasant with a few short uphill and downhill and re-crossing the same river again with a fabulous view of Mt. Thamserku (6,608 m/21,635 ft). From the Benkar, we continue our journey by crossing the bridge and reaching Monjo. There is an entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park. The trekking permits are inspected at the entrance gate and the record of all trekkers going to and from this place are kept, including the local trekking staff.

While entering the Sagarmatha National Park, we walk down to the suspension bridge over the Bhote-Koshi. Then we reach Jorsalle, the last spot till Namche Bazaar from where the walk is along the winding uphill path to Namche Bazaar with the splendid view of Kwangde Summit and its other female peak towards the east with Kusum Kangaro on the back as you ascend higher you can view Mt. Everest. Lhotse and the nearer view of the Twanche peak can be seen from some parts of Namche. Finally, we reach Namche Bazaar with vivid houses and the main gate of the Khumbu region after 5-6 hours. Finally, we make a stop overnight in Namche Bazaar.

You will have a full day off today to acclimatize and stroll around the bazaar. If it is Saturday, you will see a market with many people selling and buying various goods. You can also visit the Sherpa Museum, a great place to know Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering or visit the luxurious Everest view hotel and Syangboche airstrip.

After spending a beautiful day at Namche, our path follows the gradual trail for about a couple of hours with the most scenic route. After Sanasa, a short uphill skipping magnificent view of the great giant snow peaks from Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kwangde peak after a beautiful walk through the rhododendron forest and catch a viewpoint of Mongla, from where you can be seen the best Himalayan scenes and descend to Phortse Thanga. You can enjoy the walk, and after a few more hours of walking down, we will reach Dole for the overnight stoppage after a 5- 6 hrs walk. A small place with few tea houses and can enjoy your night at Dole.

Firstly, we ascend to the scenic ledge above the Dole and the trail climb via Labarma at 4,220m to Luza at 4,360m. The path is steep in most places as it climbs to Labarma. The trail continues to ascent along the side of the valley high above the river, crossing sandy prick to reach Machhermo. It takes a 3-4 hrs walk. In the afternoon, as we reach our destination Machhermo, we visit the Himalayan Rescue Association and overnight stoppage in Machhermo.

Today we ascend to the lodge and can see magnificent views both down the valley to Khangtega and the northern part to the Cho-You (8,153 m). The ridges harden as the trail passes through Pangram at 4,390 m. We descend to the river bank before commencing the climb up to the final moraine of the Ngazumpa Glacier. It is a sheer climb on the moraine. Afterward, the trail levels end out as it follows the Dole past a  second sheer known as  Longponga at 4,690 m, where you‘ll have an opportunity to find the footprints of  Lama or Monk on a stone. After an hour's walk, we’ll reach Gokyo Valley at 4,750 m. There are a few tea houses with comfortable bedrooms, and after lunch, you can explore around the lakeside and overnight stay in Gokyo.

This morning we trek up to the Gokyo RI for the breathtaking view of Mt. Everest with a beautiful sunrise and much more beautiful Himalayan Scenery. These will be your unforgettable memories. After dawn, you will have your breakfast at Gokyo and trek down to Thanak for 4-5 hours. Sometimes during the hasty season, it might be challenging to get a room so we can camp as well.

As we continue our journey, we stride in the high pass through one of the intense journeys to cross the Chola at 5,367 m in height.  The path is not difficult, but it is sheer and engages in a glacier snag on the eastern side. You will cross the Chola pass and reach Dzongla for an overnight stay in Dzongla.  It takes a 5-6 hrs walk to get here. You can enjoy the marvelous view at a high altitude at Dzongla.

We continue trekking along the moraine in the glacier, with scenes of Kalapathar and Pumori, before reaching Lobuche (4,910 m) for lunch. You can view the beautiful Mt. Nuptse while walking along the Gorakshep. The follow-up to the Gorakshep is rocky and windy, but it grants the best view of Pumori, and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp and glacier with Mountain View scenic. We stop at Gorakshep and enjoy the night.

After eating breakfast at Gorakshep, we prepare for our adventure to the destination. We continue our hike towards the Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Icefall. The road from here can be a bit hard, and we may have to follow the path used by Sherpa. Every year the way changes due to the movements of the glacier. The tread is quite hectic due to higher elevation and thin air. The trail passes through the rocky dunes, moraines, and brooks until you reach the base camp. Everest base camp is exciting, with noises during the high expedition season. It takes 2-3 hrs to get to the base camp, and after a majestic time here, we get back to Gorakshep for the overnight stay in Gorakshep after walking 5-6 hrs.

Early morning our journey continues through sheer ascend to the top. After reaching the top, you will feel effulgent as you conquer the moment you have been waiting for since the commencing of the journey. On top of Kalapathar, there is a small rocky peak on the southwest ledge of Mt. Pumori. The view from there is beyond your phantasm as Everest looks incredible. The cycloramic view from the point is something to relish, and you feel it’s worth seeing the south Khumbu glacier sweeping beneath you along with Everest base camp down beneath the moraine of Khumbu glacier and many picturesque sceneries. After that, we stroll back to Gorakshep and retrace to Dingboche for the overnight stoppage at our respective tea houses in Dingboche after walking for 6-7 hrs.

On this day, we have a short day walk, and after breakfast, we will head further towards the eastern side for 2-3 hrs gentle uphill to reach Chukung. Chukung is a concealed valley closer to the base of Island peak. We will have a full day's rest at Chukung and last resort to prepare the camping and curb up the climbing gear.

Today we move on further on to our journey with sheer way climbing the southern part then veering east to the mainline of the dale. There the winds blew along or below the south flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier. Continuing our short genial walking along a Brookside leads to what we can it a Big Rock. The route to the Amphu Lappcha lies to the southeast. A crisis cross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraine leads to a wide valley flanking the SW side of Island peak. We reach Island Peak base camp after walking 4-5 hrs and overnight stay in Island Peak Base Camp.

After breakfast, we pack our camping gear and move on to the High Camp. First, the way leads up to the base camp for several hundred meters before reaching the sheer hillside. The path soon reverses to a grassy area changing to a boulder region. As you ascend the hill, you will see that the slope narrows down the route and enter a steep rock duct nearby. We start climbing through the narrow and rocky valley. It is not difficult to trail the path, but we will find several short rock paces to climb before reaching the right side of the valley. The route then trails a led line, which leads to an exciting and revealing snag onto the packer of the summit glacier. You will need to rope up for the glacier as it contains several fissures. It leads without difficulty to 100m/130 ft snow and ice sloping on which the guides will fix a rope. You can successfully climb with the gumption to reach a summit, and after taking some pictures of beautiful scenery, we will come down to Chhukung for an overnight stay, and it takes the whole day as we climb and walk from 13-14 hrs.

This day we must keep the day reserved for unforeseen situations like weather problems. You can take a rest somewhere else around. On this day, we may stay at bivouac or teahouses based on the condition.

Today will be moving downhill to a lower altitude from Chhukung, and the walk is genial to Tyangboche. After Dingboche dale and getting down the bridge, our route descends the brook towards Pangboche hamlet and moves further down to Tengboche. Tengboche is one of the most beautiful places in the Himalayas, and the first thing that’s come to your eye is the big Monastery or Gumba called Tengboche monastery and the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges below the towering peak of Ama Dablam, Everest, Mt Lhotse and Lhotse Shar towards the northeast. We stay in Tyangboche overnight.

Trekking down to Phungithanka, there is a small settlement with a few teahouses. The trail leads downhill through the forested path of silver fir, blue pines, rhododendron, and some magnolias and birch trees. We will then cross the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and trek down to Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.

After a long walk today, we’ll have a long and last-day hike to Lukla. Firstly we descend the long way before crossing the bridge and walking further to Monjo and then Phakding for lunch. We walk down the path enjoying the rich green scenery and passing through the unbelievable mountain scenery passing the local Sherpa hamlet.  At the time of arrival in Lukla, you’ll have time to stroll around the places, and your guide will re-confirm your flight and enjoy the last celebration dinner with your crew member and overnight stay in Lukla.

You will catch an early flight back to Kathmandu as it gets windy later. But the flight may be delayed due to bad weather conditions. We will fly back to Kathmandu and transfer you to the hotel. You may have time to relax after an arduous journey and take back your breath to rest at your hotel.

Today is almost free time and last-minute shopping for some memento or present to your kith and kin and relatives until the departure flight or to begin any additional trips or exercises you may have booked with us. If you are departing you’ll be conveyed to the International Airport for the departure to your destined destination.
