Introduction - Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Short Trek of Poon Hill is of nine days, but the actual trekking is only four days. This short journey is your gateway to the experience of trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is perfect for families and first-time trekkers. You can experience, with your eyes, the panoramic mountains, blooming rhododendron forests, alpine lakes, green fields, and rice paddies. The naturalistic views are great, but the culture is great too. You can see and experience Gurung and Magar culture. The teahouses along the way are comfy and welcoming too.

The Poon Hill Trek is the lower part of the Annapurna circuit with a bird's eye view of many peaks like Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna II, III, and IV, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Manaslu. Also, the stunning early sunrise is the best feeling as it touches the snowy tips of the mountain peaks, and the end of the mountains glitters early morning.

"Let's observe the beauty of snowy peaks as the first rays of the sun strike it early morning, creating a glow and shine no gems can compare to and as it belongs to none, we can all enjoy it without greed at any moment. "

We start our trip from Kathmandu and then drive to Pokhara, Cherrapunji of Nepal. The trek begins as we move to Ulleri and then to Ghorepani.  The Ghorepani village is at 2874m with the traditional Gurung community. We will reach Poon Hill (3210) the next day and see the magnificence we came to look at, then trek to Ghandruk and Nayapul. We drive to Pokhara from Nayapul. Finally, we will depart for Kathmandu for your flight back.

The best month for one of the short treks in Nepal, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, is May. But the months from April to June and September to November are the trekking months/seasons. So book the experience with the Himalayan Advisor and enjoy the splendor of the Himalayas.

    Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek FAQS

    Essential Information

    • We will cater all meals on a full board basis during the trekking period. At the tea house, we will be catering meals thrice a day (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, including tea and coffee during the meal). The meals comprise a variety of American cuisine and numerous traditional Nepali and Chinese dishes. Throughout the stay in Kathmandu and Pokhara, meals are on a breakfast basis with a welcome and farewell dinner. Snacks and bottled drinks (including mineral water and liquor) are excluded from the package. We provide 1 and 2 nights of twin-sharing lodging in a 5-star deluxe hotel during the stay in Kathmandu and Pokhara, respectively. And a 3-night twin sharing in a teahouse/lodge and tented to bivouac as per itinerary (single occupancy is available on request with a single supplement).

    • Most teahouses along the Ghorepani Poon Hill trail cook a delicious range of mostly vegetarian food. The menu in the teahouses is varied, ranging from traditional Dal Bhat, Momo, and noodles to Pasta and pizza. You will find garlicky food on the menu, which assists with acclimatization at a higher altitude. In the main cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, you can find wide varieties of vegetarian, non-vegetarian, local, and western food.

    • The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is teahouse-styled trekking and does not include camping. Since the region is one of the most popular regions for trekking, there are plenty of teahouses available along the trail. Except for one or two luxury hotels, most tea-house lodges are decent with basic facilities. You can expect a room with two beds, a thin mattress, a pillow, and a blanket for each bed. Bringing a sleeping bag is advisable as a blanket provided in the teahouse will not suffice. Most of the teahouse has a squat toilet. The accommodation in the cities is at decent Hotels with standard facilities.
