DAY 2 – Tour of Kathmandu Valley: Our day starts out with touring several of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. We start our tour at Kathmandu's Durbar Square where the kings of Nepal were crowned for centuries. Here there are nearly 60 incredible temples along with the palace ofThe Kumari, who is the living goddess that resides here. There is a very good chance you will actually get to see her. We will then travel to Swayambhu, the famed Monkey Temple which has been a sacred Buddhist site for over 2000 years. After visiting Swayambhu, we will go to Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal and the third largest in the world. Here you will find Nepal's largest Tibetan community who came as refugees from their homeland after the Chinese invasion of 1950. Here are a number of interesting monasteries. The final part of the tour will be to Pashupatinath, the most sacred Hindu site in all of Nepal. In the evening, you will return to your hotel for the night.

DAY 3 – Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing, Drive to Nagarkot: The day begins by touring the beautiful city of Patan across the sacred Bagmati River from Kathmandu. This city was once its own kingdom and its Durbar Square features some incredible temples, a royal palace and a world class museum displaying the famed art from Patan. This city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our next stop is another former kingdom in the valley, Bhaktapur. Known as the city of devotees, the entire city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are incredible temples everywhere along with its famed royal palace of 55 windows. The city is especially known for its pottery and there is an entire neighborhood of potters making their wares as they have done for centuries. Following our tour of Bhaktapur, we will then go to the top of Nagarkot to check into our hotel, and there to experience an incredible sunset over the mighty Himalayas.

DAY 4 – Sunrise and Drive to Chitwan National Park: We rise early to enjoy the most incredible sunrise you can imagine over the Himalayas. From on top of Nagarkot, you can on clear days see as far east as Mt. Everest and Mt. Dhaulagiri to the west. From here, five of the ten highest mountains in the world can be seen. After breakfast, it is then off to Chitwan National Park. We leave the Kathmandu Valley and follow the mighty Trisuli River southward as its cuts a deep gorge through the mountains. In the evening, we will check into our hotel for the night.

DAY 5 – Jungle Adventure: We start off after breakfast to experience an early morning jungle safari deep into the heart of the dense jungle as we keep a sharp lookout for tigers, rhinos, deer, peacocks and other wildlife. Chitwan is a bird-watchers' paradise as it is home to many species of birds, both permanent residents as well as seasonal migrants from Siberia.  There will be time to visit the elephant breeding centre to see baby elephants (they weigh 100 kg at birth!) and to explore the jungle on foot with your trained jungle guide. In the evening, relax at your hotel.

DAY 6 – Drive to Pokhara: The journey begins after breakfast as we make our way northward, following the Trisuli River until we cross the suspension bridge at Mugling. From here we head westward through valleys and past mountain rivers until we come to the wonderful lakeside city of Pokhara.  There will be time to explore around Lakeside after checking into your hotel for the night.

DAY 7 – Pokhara Sightseeing: Today we explore the city and area of Pokhara. We will travel to the top of the ridge that hosts the Buddhist Peace Pagoda. Here you will have the most beautiful view of Pokhara, Phewa Lake and the peaks of the Annapurna Mountains. Annapurna I, the 10th highest peak in the world is very visible, but the most famous of the Annapurnas is Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) which looks like an upended fish with its tail high in the air. We will visit Devi Falls which roars over its precipice and into a deep canyon before becoming an underground river. There will also be time to do some exploring on Phewa Lake, and even take a ride to the top of Sarangkot Hill where you can watch the sunset in the evening. Following sunset, rest and relax at your hotel.

DAY 8 – Free Day in Pokhara: There is so much to see and do when in Pokhara. Some people chose to simply relax along the shores of Phewa Lake, taking in the incredible scenery. Others can choose to visit one of its many museums as well as walk along the lake. There is a Tibetan Refugee Camp that you can visit, as well as sacred caves to explore. This is your day. If in doubt of what to visit, your representative from Himalayan Advisor can certainly help you to discover the right place to visit and enjoy. We will spend another night in our hotel.

DAY 9 – Return to Kathmandu: Following breakfast, we will return to Kathmandu by private vehicle. We pass through interesting villages and then follow the Trisuli River northward until we crest the Kathmandu Valley rim. We will check into our Hotel for the night, and enjoy a special farewell dinner.

DAY 10 – Departure: Today is the final day of the trip as you make your way toward the airport and on to your next destination. Your representative at Himalayan Advisor will escort you to your airport as you make your way toward your next stop. But, you do realize that your Nepal adventure doesn't end here? 2. Useful Info

What is the best season to do the Best of Nepal Tour?
While the Kathmandu and Pokhara Valleys are always in season to tour, Chitwan is not recommended in summer due to the monsoon rains. The Terai region of Nepal receives the heaviest amount of rain in Nepal, and the rivers tend to flood this time of year in Chitwan.   Winter can be cold at night, but daytime temperatures are usually in the low 20s C. Nepal does not get the heavy monsoon rains like India and Bangladesh, so there is often plenty of sunshine. For best views from Nagarkot and Sarangkot, autumn, spring and winter are the best seasons.

What is the maximum altitude of the tour and how is the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness?
The maximum altitude during the trek is 2195 meters at Nagarkot and there is no chance of getting Acute Mountain Sickness on this trip.

What types of food can I expect during the tour?
Thamel in Kathmandu is the tourist area, and you can find any kind of food ranging from Nepali and Indian to Continental. The same goes for Pokhara and Chitwan.  There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from which offer everything from a great steak to pizza. You will have plenty of choices for food on this trip. Food selection in Nagarkot will be more limited, but still very good food.

What are the clothing and equipment requirements during the trip?
Normal clothing is fine. You may want a light jacket for early mornings and late evenings, but during the day it is usually warm enough to go without a jacket. Bring a raincoat or umbrella during the rainy season. Good walking shoes are always in order. In the jungle, be sure to wear green or brown as bright colors can frighten animals.

What types of accommodations can I expect during the trip?
We stay in standard tourist hotels with good beds and western toilets. You can upgrade to three and Five Star categories for a slightly higher fee.

What happens if there is an emergency?
Your safety and health is of paramount concerns to us in case of emergencies. In Kathmandu, there are plenty of first rate hospitals and clinics should you get sick. It rarely happens, but there is no need to worry about the lack of facilities.

What is the Maximum Elevation of this Tour?
Nagarkot is the highest point on the trip at 2195 meters. The Kathmandu Valley is at 1400 meters above sea level.

Why should I consider doing the Best of Nepal Tour?
There are many reasons for doing this tour, but probably the best is that it offers the finest of Nepal's highlights in a short period of time. While there is much, much more to see and do in Nepal, the Best of Nepal Tour will give you the highlights. You will see many of the highest peaks in the world, explore jungles looking for rare animals like tigers and rhinos and finally enjoying the relaxing lakeside city of Pokhara deep in the heart of the famed Annapurna Mountains with its incredible snowcapped peaks.  It is an excellent tour that you will enjoy to the fullest every single day.
